Hi everyone 1st post havent been on a bike forum in ages but looking for a new home..

Does anyone have any info on the Trek 7.5 fx 2011 model? Thinking of buying it this weekend on the bike to work scheme..

Took it for a ride and it felt very nimble but I didnt get a chance to stretch my legs on it, it felt world apart from my old spesh hardrock pro disc.
My main question is would it be fine for 20 miles a day?
Moving house this weekend to didsbury and I work in wilmslow so I can only choose whats in store at Evans in manchester and this came up trumps..
Any advice on accesseries to get would be grand too!

You don't say what type of route you have - flat, hilly, smooth or like Kabul airport?

On the face of it 20 miles a day on it would be no problem. I would fit bar ends though, mudguards (45mm) and spd pedals as well as a rack to carry any stuff. Then there's decent lights and better tyres to consider and a good lock such as the Abus Granite X Plus. So budget for £1300.

  • Hi
I have had a Trek 7.5 for nearly 2 years now and have been really pleased with it.
I commute 18 miles round trip in mainly urban with rural start/end.
Its fairly light before you add the commuting extras, lots of gears and the bontrager gear fitted is pretty good and will last you. I have just had new tyres, chain and sprocket at about 3000 miles.
I have fitted different grips with bar ends, obviously lights, clip on mudguards.
My only question would be have you considered a cyclocross bike? If i had time again I would have one instead of a hybrid as it seems to tick even more boxes. Just a thought.

    Cheers
  • Hi

I have a 2009 7.5fx, has been a great bike with one major exception. A little under 12 months after purchase the frame cracked around the bottom bracket. I have read of a few others having this same problem.

Have to say though Trek were superb in handling the situation. Took the bike back to my local dealer, they inspected it and sent photo's to Trek. A week or so later the shop called to say that Trek had offered to not only replace the frame but upgrade it to full carbon.

Not had any problems with the bike since! Nice carbon bike for £550.

    Cheers

  • £699.99, wow, they seem to have jumped in price. 2 years ago I paid £550 for mine - same spec just a different colour.
  • I've got a 7.3 FX that I use for a 12 miles each way, every day, regardless of weather (etc) commute... does me just fine. As such I'd imagine the 7.5 is ok.

Commute is central london, Bromley ->Westminster.... the roads could do with being flatter though !! (Spd Pedals and shoes have made the world of difference to me)

Interesting. Trek now use smaller 68mm bottom bracket shells on the 7500/7.5fx hybrid range. When the range first started the shells were 73mm. But good to hear that their customer service is so good when things go wrong.

Go to Bicycle Doctor in Rusholme, they are a Trek specialist dealer (as well as Bianchi) and a few other manufacturers.

They give you 3 free services in the first year, I bought my Trek 7.3 from there, they do a very good job, I think they do accept Bike to Work.

Take a look at their website.

BTW , Treks 2011 range has far too many decals

Did a couple of sportives on my 2010 7.5 before getting a 1.2.

No problems at all with the bike, handles well, its fairly light for a hybrid and comfortable due to a good seat and carbon forks, the gear ratios are handy for hills or if you lack fitness like me,

its now my dedicated turbo bike, its covered 3000 miles in total and looks as good today as it did coming out of the shop.
