Planning to ride the south Downs Way over 3 days. Anyone know of any good (not too expensive if possible!) accommodation. Also anywhere we could leave a car in Winchester.

  • There is a good campsite just off the South Downs way at Washington roundabout which is just north of where the SDW crosses the A24 between Washington and Findon.

Also you have the Youth Hostel at Truleigh hill which is actually on the SDW, thats basically north of Shoreham By-sea. Those two are pretty close together so no doubt depending on how the ride is going, you'll be only staying at one or the other.

Thats my local knowledge, so might need others to chip in regarding different areas of the SDW.

    Good luck!

  • Me too, thinking about doing it over 2-3 days in the summer, gonna pick a nice weekend and just quietly wild camp in secluded places....obviously exercising the utmost respect for the environment/landowner etc :D
  • Great practical website includes some accommodation info
