Hi all, just a quick one.

I have a Tiagra groupset. Do I have to buy a Shimano 9 speed chain or would any road bike 9 speed chain (SRAM, Campag) do it?

Cheers!

  • Any 9 speed chain would be OK
Shimano are good - Sram are better (IMO)
    Wipperman, KMC are also receommended

9 speed chains are all compatible with all groups.

Any 9 speed will do. Shimano are a bit of a pain because you need to replace pins when you break the chain. KMC are often recommended as good value, e.g. KMC X9-93 silver/grey comes with reusable quick connection link. Evans stock them and will price match the cheapest online price if you take in a printout of the web page showing basket price inc delivery.

I knew SRAM were compatible with Shimano, but wasn't aware they are all interchangable, you learn something new everyday 8)

Shimano chains are pain free if you join them with a KMC missing link.
