Hit by driver

This is why at 53 I don't like riding yet I do love my short cyce rides.

Today I thought I would pop to the local cycle shop, just over the road but I love cycling so I ride the short trip.

Going round a button roundabout a driver in 10 a plate crept out and came so close I had to stop as I didnt want to be hit by him at spead.

He shouted "get off the road you fat C", opened his window and punched me in the side as he passed.

I wish I had been 20 years younger, he sped off tyres screeching.

That is something else, why do people always have to insult your size also. I never abuse others.

  • Your action, in slowing down to avoid an incident, made the driver's poor driving apparent to him, and people don't like having their faults recognised. And he was clearly a bully, by defering at the roundabout you set yourself up as the victim and he could then act out his frustrations.

I try to just keep to the rules, i defend my right of way and stick-up for myself. I'm maybe that '20 years younger' guy, but rather shamefully I have been to court twice over situations like this

I know it sounds silly, but don't take it personally, the driver's probably just a tw@t.

Shame you didn't get more of his reg.

Jesus Christ, it's stuff like this that makes me question my principles of non-violence.

People like that are no better than animals. Worse really, because animals serve a valid purpose in the ecosystem, people like him just use up valuable resources for the rest of us. And animals are usually cuter.

PS how come he was able to reach you on the driver's side while on a roundabout? Was he on your left?

The problem was that he was on the inside of me after I had left the roundabout, he deliberately pushed me out to the right, i either had to go on the wrong side of the road or stop, he would not let me carry on down the road and passed me on the inside.

I was turning right, he was coming from the other direction turning left to go the same way, I was round the roundabout but he refused to stop and I ended up level with his car door, he opened the window and hit me.

What worries me about the likes of him is would he have done this to a child/teenager, older person/elderly, believe me if I had met him in the car park he would have regretted it but he went straight on.

  • I got hit by a taxi driver a few months ago.
I pulled out in front of him with plenty of room but he blew his horn as he went past.
I then raised my hand(not giving any fingers just a wave).
He braked that quick that I went over the top of the boot and onto the other lane.
He then opened his window, swore and laughed and drove off.
This is from a taxi driver?!
I think he's in court soon.

I have the police coming round 10am Sunday to look at the footage from my cycle helmet cam, superb quality those £6 cameras from Ebay, as I said in another post I have three and NEVER go out without them on.

BUY one you never know when you may need it.

You can't do much about c**ts in charge of cars I'm afraid. Giving their bodywork a go over with a d-lock is tempting, but tbh ends up putting you in danger and on the wrong side of the law. You're in charge of 10Kg of bike (and a D-lock) but they have 2 tons of car.

Jeremy - do you have any recommendations for helmet cams? You've suddenly piqued my interest :P

I am just uploading a sample vid to photobucket,

Waterproof, what for £6, sorry, even the £40 isnt, I just place it in a small plastic bag free from the bank and cut a VERY small hole for the lens nds stick it round with tape, no water has yet got in the lens but you cant waterproof a mic.

Of course the sound does come through the thin plastic fine, I have also had GREAT sucess with clingfilm, easier to use.

It is simply velcroed in place on my helmet, see

Take a look at the still from the vid I have just placed there.

People spend hundreds, perhaps because they think they need to, with thechnology today why, I place the order with whatever company abroad and have always received whatever I order within 14 days.

And for £12 ish you have TWO cameras, DONT forget the Micro SD card though, I bought one from here.

    My Blackberry has a 32GB.

The vid cam records in actual time for 1hr 15 mins and will rfecord upto 6gb in that time.

I was given one of those recently. How best to attach it to a helmet?

Let us know the news, pug, we'll all chip in with a cheer if something resembling justice gets done.

    Music from a Queen song,
du du du du du another 1 bites the dust!!!
Got a letter before xmas about court date set for march and I would have to appear But just found out today the driver has pleaded guilty and I dont have to go now WOO HOO!!!
  • Well, here's hoping the police do something with the video footage, assuming they can or want to trace the driver.

As a word of warning, and especially if the police involve themselves, just be mindful of your personal security. The thug who assaulted you may be local. These people tend to have friends and/or family with similarily stunted brains.

And also, your name is up on this forum, so maybe don't be too quick to post the footage.

Man... I can empathise with that to a certain extent.

Today was filtering down two lanes - one to go left/straight ahead and the other straight ahead only. Lights just before the turn and they change at different times - as I was going ahead and did not want to slow down the turning lane I went to the very front of the queue... ahem, where a X5 happened to be. So I was about 2-3 seconds slow off the lights and I hear a beep. Moment later they pull up on my right (woman driving man in passenger) with the man smiling and saying eventually shouting "ya skinny b*stard" and then she put the foot down. Unfortunately shortly after the encounter there is a stretch of sort of dual carriageway and they sped off - not much traffic to slow them down unfortunately. More annoyed about not getting the right word in tbh.

So I have just ordered the camera too! had an eye on one of them for a bit of time, but never got around to it - thought I may as well for £8 hey? :)
