i have been pain under the ball of foot for over a year which comes and goes. does anyone else get this and are there any quick solutions without spending a fortune on physio. the pain is at its worst when using crank bros acid pedals for winter and cx. have also used spd's which were worse, and use look for the road with northwave aerator shoes.

Have you been to your GP - if you aren't in need of an urgent appointment you could probably see a physio on the NHS - though of course the GP may be able to diagnose it or may refer you to a specialist doctor.

I don't like going to my GP with sports injury type stuff as I always feel he wont take it seriously but if you've had it over a year then I think it's reasonable.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.
  • Neither GPs nor physios will have the foggiest, unless they have a special interest in feet which is unlikely. Save some time and go see a podiatrist.

    No I am not one.

No it's unlikely your GP will be able to solve it but if the OP wants to avoid spending a fortune it's still the first port of call - a private podiatrist will very often prescribe orthotics and that can cost a fair bit.

I wouldn't write off physios either - if you are referred with a foot problem they should get you an appointment with someone who does have an idea.

Probably not as good advice as seeing a doctor/specialist for your problem, but I put one of these gel cushions under the ball of my foot and it solves the problem for me:
