...as a FEMALE!!!

Been reading a few posts on here now and it puzzles me as to why people refer to their bikes as a female. It's cringing. It's a bike.

WHY?!?!

One day bikes will have intelligence and if you refer to it as "it" then it'll probably chuck you off.

    Random thoughts...

    It can't be female because..

I ride it whenever I feel like it.
It never says it's not in the mood for a ride
I ride it as hard as I like, not how it likes
It never complains if it's a very short ride
Nor if I have a crap day and can't get up like I did last time

oh, and it once tossed me off in front of my friends.

    Definitely not a 'she'

I always find it a cringe-worthy when people refer to their bikes as "builds" or "rigs".
  • When you have more than one bike knocking about naming them becomes very handy for ease of reference. It's like having to name the first born when the second one comes along because "child" is no longer sufficient.

I've got one of each sex (bikes, not kids).

Something your male friends do then?
Has the head wind picked up or the tail wind dropped off???
  • Mine are referred to as the cannondale, me birdy & the crosser. Easier than trying to remember a made up name for them

    I'd add "steed" to that.

Mine are referred to as the hack, the tourer, the trail and the wreck.

AKA yellow, red, white and, well I think it's brown, or that could just be rust, or mud, or...well, let's just stick with brown.

Yeah, both terms tend to be used by some people who build their own bikes, I think to emphasise, the fact they built it up themselves.

Funnily enough you get the same two terms used in computer forums when people are talking about their computers.
