just wondering what tools etc i should carry on rides apart from innertubes.

i always have a multitool and innertube, but have noticed that a couple of people who were on the club run on sunday have a massive wad of tools in their pockets/saddle bags.

are there any nice compact pocket tool sets you can buy? is there any point? i mean will a multitool be ok?

On the Mountain bike I always carry:
Big Multi-tool, chain splitter, Allen keys, etc...
    Mini pliers (new addition)
    Tyre leavers
    spare tube
    Emergency whistle
    Tin foil blanket
    cable ties
    tube patches
    toothpaste tube
    Rear Mech hanger
    quick links
    Money
    Mobile phone
    about 1000 calories of gels
    Pump (dual shock and tyre)
CO2 inflator with a couple canisters.

If I am out on a bit of an exposed ride I'll throw in a waterproof, another tube and more gels.

I should take with me but don't
    Emergency contact details
    Gaffer tape
    First aid kit

Unless your carrying pre pumped inner tubes I'd go with a pump as well!!

I take a tube, multitool, co2 thing and a tyre lever. Also have my iphone for music and emergency.

 The question was what do you take in your saddle bag not back pack!

For me, a couple of tyre levers, tube, 2 co2 canisters, tiny patch kit and a small multi tool. £10 note, debit card and phone in my jersey pockets as well as a couple of bananas and some flapjack.

Phone, cash, puncture o/fit, pump, drink. If longer - 40+ miles, a bit of food, maybe an extra drinks bottle.

I used to carry tools & stuff, but I've never had a bike break on me. Not saying it won't, but the phone fixes most unexpected eventualities.

tube, pump, cash, phone, multitool if I want to fiddle with equipment.

    Anything else is uncessary.

I think it depends on how remote you plan to ride. If you ride with others and ride remote... split the kit up between yourselves.

It's all about risk management ;)

  • chain link removal tool.

always the forgotten bit (missing link) I have vivid memories of a guy with two tubes and a puncture kit Halfords would have been proud of but he could go nowhere without the means to drop a link out of his chain...

I also have a pump which has a gas cylinder and manual option - seen so many punctures 'fixed' only to reoccur just down the road (we have all done it) when gas is gone its gone

I also canibalise an old tyre for a bit of pare side wall as a get you home patch - weighs nowt, and can be a godsend

What about the oxy acetylene kit, brazing rods and spare tubeset?

I am seriously thinking of reworking my wheelstand into something I can mount on the rack . Complete with spare spoke repository, collapsible dishing tool and tensionmeter.

dont forget the bb facing tool, otherwise your newly brazed bottom bracket might not be square.
