Just purchased myself a new project 4X bike.....

I love the way my patriot DH/FR bike rides and always fancied a Ms Isle so it was a no brainer really.

Here it is when it was delivered Saturday morning....

Twins...

The frame was in good shape, but I decided the colour was not what i was after, I also hated the rim brake bosses that the later frames do not have, so I set to work with the hacksaw.....

The offending bosses....

Iphone4AJ055.jpg

After that I spend some time with the file tidying up the bosses....

by this time, my fingers were numb... so I gave up and returned today, file in hand to finish the job....

Added a layer of guide coat to ensure id still got a square edge on the frame, then repeated the process on the other seat stay..

Not in the tubing no, it was a hole in the left over metal from the canti bosses.

You've done a good job on those v-brake bosses. I was a little worried by that hole! But if it's not structural then that's alright, you seem to know what you're doing.

I've always wanted a ms isle, since i had a patriot, i just love the look of the monocoque downtube! Sadly, I have no real use for one, as i don't dirt jump or race 4x. Oh well.
Also, I think they look great in white! If you send it to orange, they'll do a new paint job and replace all the stickers to official orange ones for you.

Yeah they will but that's 150 plus postage etc... They can supply sticker sets too though with headtube badge etc, so I think i'l get a local powder coater to do it and then order some official graphics once it's done.

I can assure you that the hole is just a hole on the weld/metal where the boss was, you can see the untouched tubing underneath on an earlier pic. And obviously there's no hole on the finished pic. I didn't really know what I was doing but they were bloody ugly and I had patience! Lol.....

Oh yeah sorry, the welds seem to stick out a bit more than some of your photos suggest, i thought you had cut into the tubing slightly and filled it or something. Good job anyway!

Yeah the pics don't really show it, but even i stopped breathing when it first appeared..... Was about ready to bin it before i realised the tubing was underneath and untouched.
  • Be a nice companion for the Patriot. I always liked the MsIsle's. Look forward to seeing the rest of the build :)

Any ideas of what colours you have in mind?

I've narrowed it down to yellow, orange or White.

Yellow being most favoured as Steve Peat used to race a yellow one with black & silver parts!

Though orange would match the patriot.

I'd go for Yellow, with all black bits.

I much prefer that to Full sus Oranges.

The patriot really does come into it's own on the dh trails I've ridden recently! I love the geometry of the frame.

I always will keep a hardtail though, it seems to keep my riding tuned! If I always rode the patriot I'd get away with far too much! So I like to keep my riding smooth by using a hardtail!

Ive decided its deffo going yellow.

Not a faded gay yellow like the one above, but more of a vivid yellow.. JCB yellow even.

Interesting build. I do like Orange bikes, and kind of wished I'd bought a Blood last year.
I'd have had it in Green though.

I'm looking forward to it too! Gonna take a little while though, hit a stumbling block already..... Whilst the powder coaters have masked off the bottom bracket they've only masked 99% of the threads, the first thread or so has a bit of powder in it and the BB won't bite. The rest of the threads are clear though.

Gonna take it in to my LBS and get them to face the BB, and chase the thread, hopefully that'll sort it!

Looks good with the decals :)

Your LBS should be able to sort the issue with the threads no problem.

Yeah went into Freewheel and spoke to the mechanic, they're pretty sure they can sort it and it's going in tomorrow, so fingers crossed!
