Just bought a SRAM flak jacket cable kit, the instructions are very basic.
I was wondering should I lube the new cables before installing?

It isn't necessary, but it is quite a good idea. Personally I'd either run the cable through some wax (pinched between two tea lights works quite well) or use rock 'n' roll cable magic.0

I run my inners though a little thick bearing grease before passing them into the outers. Don't bother with a thin lube like WD400

then they do not need any lube. Lube will increase the friction and promote wear faster than normal.
PS the manual does not mention any lube."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

When I've fitted Gore cables, I've fitted them dry. The set on my Tricross are still like new after 2 months.I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I use Flying Snakes sealed cables and i always give them a quick blast of GT85 before i run them into the plastic inner sleeves.0

Just some feedback on the flack jacket. Its fairly easy to fit and I did lube the cables with a dry teflon spray before hand. the red tubing is on the cheap side and kinks easy. It also makes my rear cable protrude slightly from the lower swing arm tube, so I'll have to watch I don't catch it with my feet.
However shifting is extremely good and very light. I have yet to get it muddied up, but so far so good.0 -
