Apps for Android

Does anyone know of a GPS Android phone app that stops recording when you stop (like my Garmin) so that it records the average speed for when you were moving as well as the average speed for the total time.

    Google have a GPS tracking app for the Android that is called mytracks. Its free too. I use it for walking as it tells you the incline, total accent, average speed, time moving, stopped etc etc.

    give oruxmaps http://www.oruxmaps.com/index_en.html a try. can use the online maps(google) or mobile atlas creator for the pc to save 50 types of maps at varible zoom to the SD card. Saving your maps before hand saves battery and data usage.
    allows uploads to everytrail or mapmytracks
    records total and moving time and speeds
    good stats and graphs
    works with most bluetooth hrm
    and its all free

    tried
    cardio trainer, endomondo and sportypal but found this gives best details and battery usage

    Found cardiotrainer to drain my battery within 2 hours (standard setting) on g1 and wildfire and only has google maps (streaming)
    the calorie counter and weight loss program can be useful if you want a full package but it will cost you

    ordance survey is pretty much standard as soon as you want to go off road and the openstreet cycle map give you all the bikeshops and sustrans routes. being able to save the maps before hand or cache them will save you alot of your battery life and data allowence

    I use Sportypal which is available from the market and is free. Just register and you can upload all of your sessions and view them online.

    I've got Sportypal (and a few others by now) It's very good but does it stop when you stop?

    I'm not 100% sure to be honest, however you can pause it. The only app I know of which does stop automatically was sport tracker on Nokia devices.

    I've been using Endomondo and it seems to be working well without problems. It stops when you stop and tells you that it has stopped. On my Motorola defy, I seem to be getting 6-7 hrs on one charge.

    I use endomondo and find it pretty simple to use and not to hard on the battery on my HTC legend. I have also found that once your track is uploaded to the endomondo website where you can view it online on the maps. You can also export it as a GPX file from the website and look at them on memory map software.

    The endomondo works quite well. Although it gives max and min altitude, it doesn't give total height gained which would be useful to me. Does anyone know how you can obtain this?

    If you log onto to endomondo does has elevation information.

    My tracks is good; when it works, which for me is rarity.
