Accomodation Alpe D'Huez for TdF?

Anyone know of any cheap b&bs/hotels etc on the alpe d'huez?

    i'll be using public transport to get there so camping just means i have to carry loads of extra stuff that i'd rather not.

    Les 2 Alpes is 8 km from bottom of D'huez if you get the cable car down to Venosc (where I am camping and pitches still available).

    A one man tent is tiny and most sites have eating and drinking establishments on them, plus people on side of a mountain are very friendly and willing to share camp stoves etc for the odd beer if you camp on the route.

    Good luck with the search as will be very busy as most people will be there for couple of days as 3 stages in area, Galibier finish, D'huez and TT in Grenoble. Grenoble may be an idea and then thumb a lift.

    Just a few questions If you rough camp somewhere on the alpe -

    Will people be there three days or so before that stage?
    Is there space for a car?
    Can you buy food anywhere?
    Are there any public temporary toilets?
    Is there anywhere to watch TV?

    Grateful for any advice.

    2. Yes if you get there early enough in the week
    3. Yes, you can walk down into Bourg d'Orsains or up to Huez or up to the top to Alp d'Huez.
    4. No, but there is a public toilet in Alpe d'Huez at the top and one in the car park at the bottom (this one is like the ones you see in the road works on the M1 for the motorway maintenance people to use. And I would not let my cat take a sh1t in there it is so bad), or you could go al fresco.
    5. On Ventoux I know of one giant screen that they put up, but don't know how long before the stage it went up, not so sure they will on d'huez though. Get chatting to the numerous Dutch as they all have satellite tv in their camper vans.
