front (and maybe back) drop out problems

Hi there

Hurriedly went to try a new front wheel set up for my old frame. Unfortunately the axle seems to thick for the front drop outs. I was just wondering if this could be remedied by using a round file or is there another solution? This may well apply to the rear drop outs as well.
