Does anyone know of a rack mounted bottle holder?

The reason being I have two bottle cages on my bike, but on the long rides, 5 hours plus, I could do with an extra bottle or two.

i do stop at garages for water etc, but it would be nice not to use it

I do have a behind the saddle option, but It obscures my rear lights and stops me using a saddle bag, hence looking for an alternative... oh and some git stole my camelbak and I so rarely use it I dont want to replace it :(

    Hi Will

Spotted this suggestion on another forum.

    http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Profile%20Desig ... e_5302.htm

Looks like it attaches to the saddle rails and holds two bottles. Not sure how robust it would be but it might be worth a try.
  • The profile has a tendency to work itself loose - and the plastic tend to "bounce" the best option I have found is the Minoura one (dont have a link) - which although very basic is actually very finely crafted. It works on the same principle as the profile but you will have to buy your own cages. i would suggest the tacx cages.

For this approach I would suggest that you only use 500m bottles - any bigger and you will feel the centre of balance on the bike move.

Using google you should also be able to find cages which attach to the bars - so you have the possibility of a couple of bottles there.

More solutions - you will find on tri forums.

hi chaps, thanks for your suggestions.

I do have a behind the seat bottle carrier for 2 bottles, and wih good cages I have got 800ml bottles fitted. Hpwever behind the sadle obscures the rear light.

I also have a between the bars bottle for TT, but i can see with a google ones that attach to the front bars ofa road bikel....

    off to investigate

How big is your saddle bag?
Can you not put a bottle in the bag, then swap bottles out as they empty?...
Start with a budget, finish with a mortgage!
  • Can you not mount your rear light on the rack and toolkit on your rack, rather than your waterbottle? Are you using panniers? Can you not carry your water bottles in them?

Get a bottle that tapers in about 1/3 of the way down for grip. Lay it down on the top of the rack and bungee down ? Prob put a cape or something underneath it too for extra grip. Sorted.
