So were thinking of going next weekend never been before or to any trails centre.

I just wanted to ask a few questions before we went.

Is everything well signposted so we can find all the trials etc

Obviously we will get out of the way of faster riders etc but as were pretty much noobs is there anything else we should no before we go ?

Very well signposted, you start off on one route and all the others split from that one.

You will be climbing for the first 20-30 min's before you get to anything decent.

The black route isn't as tough as at other trail centre's, there's 2 options on the black so you can do it twice if you want to spend all day.

Take a bike lock if you want to go in the cafe, there's a fair few instances of people having bikes knicked.

I'd say Llandegla is the perfect intro to trail centres for Newbies!

Before you go check the website for any info re. closures or weather warnings
    http://www.coedllandegla.com/

Trails are very well marked, all starting and ending at the on-site shop/cafe thingy.

The only thing to keep aware of at any trailcentre is faster riders approaching from behind, and if you need to stop for a rest/drink/repair make sure you're clear of the trail :-)

Other than that, just ride round at your own pace and enjoy yourself (oh, and take your litter home).

The Llandegla routes aren't technical so there's nothing that should be beyond you. Even the black route is perfectly rideable by the inexperienced - it just has more (& steeper) climbs, but you can just push up these if you run out of steam.

For the blue route allow 90mins, red route 2 hours and the black up to 3. If you're already fairly fit this should be plenty of time.

The initial 20-30minutes is a long gentle-ish climb (don't let the gradient of the first 50m panic you!), but it's a wide trail so you can trundle up and chat amongst yourselves.

If you have any problems you'll find passing riders willing to offer help.
Actually, some riders will ask if you're ok even when you're just stopped for a rest :-)

... and there's a bike wash for £1 when you get back to the car park

    Thanks for the replies fellas.

Im unfit to be honest but getting better slowly so will just bash away at my own pace. Cant wait to go now
  • I'd also stop in the cafe for a bacon and egg roll, the best around and perfect way to finish off the ride.

It's a good place to get your legs and skills up to scratch.

what the others said; ideal palce for a begginer good fun and nothing too serious with assistance close at hand, easy to follow the trails: if you like to see where you are going before you leave, you can download a map from here

    http://www.coedllandegla.com/Mountain_B ... index.html

this does not show the newer bits though, also the new black does have some rocky bits, if you dont like the look of the rocky drop where the trail splits follow the old route (big jims)

Ride the Blue first if you have never been to a trail centre. Only you know your own skill and ability and you can then judge what you should be riding.

None of it is hard but people still get hurt there every week .

Oh and if you need to know anything before you go, ie. snow, ice, check out www.oneplanetadventure.com - they run the place.

If they ever have to close because of snow or open late so they can grit the car park, it will be updated 1st thing in the morning.

The coed llandegla website is more about the place and isnt regulalrly updated.

I agree with Omegas, if you are a beginner do the blue first- it is often overlooked but is actually great fun. :)

If you get around that OK and you have plenty of energy left, do the red route. You can always do the black on your next visit :D
