Can anyone tell me the advantages of having ceramic braking surfaces on your wheels. Also do you need a particular type of brake pad.

    Meant to give better stopping force.

    My original crossmax are ceramic, meant to use ceramic specific blocks with them.
    Pretty sure I found normal blocks to offer better performance though, maybe at the expense of the ceramic coating tearing up the normal blocks faster??? Never been a prob though.

    Cheers. It's some Crossmaxes I am looking at at the moment, though I am running HS33 rim brakes. May have to do more homework.
    Those reviews on mtbr don't look promising for the ceramic pad.

    Different companies had very different surfaces. Mavic ceramic is quite smooth, works best with normal pads. Bontrager rims were very aggressive and tore apart normal pads (which were softer). With Crossmax you just want normal pads. HS33s may eat the coating, and rims are silly money.
