Hello all,

Got my new brakes for Christmas a set of brand spanking Shimano Saint M810 brakes with RT 75 rotors. My question is as they came off a built bike I have no instructions for setup. Just wondering what the gold adjuster does on the end of the brake lever and the silver screw near where it says free stroke, they both seem to move the brake lever in and out. Unable to find a setup guide or manual for these online, fitted to the bike now and feel good but would like to know what these to bits do.

Many Thanks
Simon

  • freestroke does nothing useful.

the gold adjuster moves the lever closer or further away from the bars.
  • Free stroke is just the amount of level movement before the pad makes contact with the rotor Si. Though by all accounts of what i've been reading about them it's the one thing that doesn't work very well on them!

the free stroke is not a separate adjustment but should be used along with the stroke adjuster to get the right feel.

all to be done after bedding in.

  • Cool thanks for that, I did get the feeling from experimentation that they seemes to do the same thing. Now time to find a big hill and get them bedded in.
    Cheers

Enjoy them! Once bedded in these things are evil!!!
As said above the silver screw does not really do much, though I've found if you wind them out the brakes feel spongier... So I just left them all the way in!
  • One more thing, I seem to be able to move the lever quite a way before the brakes bite, possibly as much as 15-20mm, is there a way of bringing the lever back a bit towards the point at which the brakes bite. Using the gold adjuster seems to move the lever but the bite point follows by the same measure.
    Thanks

lever reach. but bed them in first.

  • Indeed, Lever reach but how do I achieve this, may sound daft but when I alter the gold adjuster to move levers in, just moves bite point inwards too and unable to get 100% brake force as lever hard up against grip. Yes I know I'm being impatient and they need some bedding in but want the info in advance if you knwo what I mean.

May need bleeding if lever is coming too far back. As stated by others the gold knob only adjusts the lever reach so the blade is in the correct position for your hand span.
  • Ta for that, will give them there first maiden voyage on the 2nd then take it from there.

  • took a while to get my saints sorted. the bleed out of the box was terrible so I ended up bleeding mine almost straight away which sorted them out.
