Accuracy of pressure gauges

I have both a shock pump and track pump (not an expensive one), both have pressure gauges, but when the track pump shows 50psi the shock pump shows 35psi-40.

Can I assume that the shock pump will be the more accurate.

Thank you

I would usually expect the shock/fork pump guage to be the better of the 2, most pump guages are rubbish I have to say!

  • When others pump their tyres up do you rely on the pump or a separate pressure gauge say hand held car.

    Hi,
I don't use a guage. The tyre needs to be hard enough to avoid "snakebite" punctures and not so hard that it'll blow off the rim. There's a big gap between those two, so accuracy isn't necessary.

    Cheers,
    W.
  • Thank you both.

My only concern is that my tyres state 35-60 psi and I dont want to go over, too low means heavy going.

I use an electronic gauge, which I have checked for accuracy.

  • If your tyres have a schrader valve (car type) then simply buy a decent digital gauge. I bought one from Tesco a few years ago and It's incredibly accurate for £5. I know it's accurate because out of curiosity I cheekily got it calibrated by my nephew at his place of work.
