Which Jazz Mag is best?

Many gentlemen like to have a thumb through the pages of publications known as "Jazz Mags". But which one is best for the discerning type of fellow?...."DownBeat" or "Jazz Journal".

    I can't really help with the choice but i know when i find a good one i tend to stick to it.

    At the risk of raising the tone!!!!

    I tried Jazz Journal which I did like but I feel a lot of the jazz mags are quite sparse and lack the necessary coverage to provide any substance month on month. I do read Jazz Journal in the library but I think it's pretty pricey off the peg. Downbeat I've not tried. I'm subscribing to Wire Magazine at the mo which does a lot of improv stuff, but not soley jazz, though it used to about 10 years ago.

    I use websites mostly ! :lol:

    I tried reading a jazz mag once but could'nt make head nor tail out of it as all the words were in the wrong place&did'nt make any sense.....niccceeeee!

    I must admit I tried lots of them but couldn't get on with any of them, partly because (like most jazz musicians) I have a very sprecific taste in music and the magazines didn't reflect my opinion

    I would say get online and find out about where the gigs are by you, seeing it live is where it's at

    I don't know about Jazz.
    However I find 'Big Jugs' the perfect read for the pottery aficionado.

    To raise the tone ever so slightly, those with avant garde tastes could find something of interest/ have a listen to Late Junction on radio3. John Zorn's take on Ennio Morricone was the highlight for me last week.

    Despite having a collection of jazz mags and having signed up to a few websites, I'm just not into the jazz scene.
