The motivation for long distance riding

    Not sure my wife would agree :p Her motivation for our London to Sydney jaunt was varied.
    It was always one of the following for each of the 361 days of cycling:
    - Sightseeing
    - a hot shower
    - hot shower and a bed
    - the airport (for the trip home lol)

    Funny enough her motivation dropped severely when there was just the open road, with no sign of a town for 2-3 days. But picked up in the Australian outback, where there were no dwellings for several days! Contradictory I know...

    When the motivation dropped so did her speed - on a bad day we would do about 16-18kmph and 50km distance, on a good day 22-25kmph and 100km distance. So motivation certainly helps. As for me, I just love the open road.
