Best place to find Touring bikes in the Midlands?

A colleague of mine and her husband are looking at riding LEJOG next summer. As a keen cyclist, I have been asked for advice re: bike shop to be measured up for suitable bike (looking for touring bike rather than out and out road bike I believe).

They are based in South Derbyshire. Are Mercian and Brian Rourkes the best bet. Any other suggestions?

Any advice appreciated - I'm not really into touring (just yet).

Thanks

I am sure everyone would think a mercian a great choice, but there are much cheaper things to be had , especially for your first bike.
They could go to a local serious bike shop like samways in derby or 2000 in burton ( I hope south derby people will point to other good ones) and have a look at big makers ranges like giant and dawes. If not experienced one needs to think about whether you want drops or straights or curly trekking bars. An adjustable stem is a boon too on a long trip.
a common cheap choice is a raleigh royal.
Raleigh Eclipse, , Dahon Jetstream XP, Raleigh Banana, Dawes super galaxy, Raleigh Clubman

    Thanks for the info.

I thought that Samways was more for road bikes/MTB than the touring models.

I'll pass on the information to my colleague.
