I'm not going on 'favourite', but best. Favourite is a whole different matter.

    Team: HTC
    GT rider: Nibali
Classics rider: Cancellara (Gilbert very close)
    Sprinter: Cav
    TTer: Fabian again
Grand Tour: For entertainment, the Giro, but the Tour always wins for me - all the big boys come out to play.
Other Tour: Surprisingly, the Tour of Britain
    Monument: LBL
Classic: Does the new Montreal race count? Otherwise the Worlds (also not really a classic)
Walking disaster: Christian Vande Velde for starting the Giro and the Tour but never making it to Italy or France.
Idiot: Anyone who believed that Cancellara had a motor in his bike. Second place: Vacansoleil for twice celebrating a win a lap too early (Westra in Qatar or Oman, Marcato in Poland).

She's 5th in the World Rankings, 5th in the CQ Rankings and 8th in the World Cup. So no, not cyclist of the year. (Vos is no.1 in all of them)

Cheers, never seen that site before. Vos races a LOT compared to Pooley, but arguably Pooley won the bigger races ?

Also Emma Pooley, fantastic as ever and J-Rod has been epic value and great to see top the world rankings.

To the people voting Gilbert as the best classics rider:

    Why not Cancellara?

After all, spring classics have much more competition, and Cancellara absolutely dominated the cobbled classics season, against very good, in form opposition.

That Pip's biggest rival in Lombardy was Scarponi should tell you it wasn't the most competative ever - and in the races where there was competition - Liege & the World Champs, he didn't make it.
  • Team - Liquigas- Their support for Basso in the Giro was awesome
    GT rider - Evans
    Classics rider - Cancellara
    Sprinter - Cavendish
    TTer - Cancellara
    Grand Tour - Giro
Other tour - I found myself quite enjoying the Dauphine and can't explain why...
    Monument - Paris Roubaix
    Classic - Fleche Wallonne
    Walking disaster - Damiano Cunego
Idiot- McQuaid, at least pretend in public that you're impartial.

Can I give Peter Sagen my Rider of the Year too? Good.

Cancellara clearly did very well winning Flanders, Roubaix and E3 Prij, Gilbert on the other hand won Amstel, Lombardy & Piemonte but was ALSO top 5 in Flanders, Liege and GW and was top 10 in MSR and Fleche Wallone, showing he's a true classics winner and all rounder. Personally I think they are hard to split, the two best classics riders in the world by some distance but Gilbert edges it for me due to the variety of different races that he shows himself in.

I haven't voted for anyone, but I'm sure it is Gilbert's consistency throughout the entire season that impresses people.

Perhaps - he had the luxury of not riding the tour. Canc rode a very good first week, and still had enough in the tank to win the World TT.

I do rate Lombardy less than the other classics though - the competition just isn't the same.
