Is it possible to convert a Standard V-Brake front forks to be able to have a disk brake mount, and how can you do this?

    What forks?

If they don't have a disc mount it's new forks time.

You will be limited by your frame as to what travel forks you can run

    What frame do you have?

  • Oh wait no, i don't want high travel forks, I want DH style forks. My V brake forks are a DH style fork but they have a standard travel that a standard fork has

so they are something like a Zoom?

IE a fork that looks like it is good but actually is not very good.

Just look at a fork that has the correct travel.

Forks come in lots of different travel lengths.

There are no standard travel length forks.

DH style forks are at the longer end of travel & generally only to be used on a DH frame.

also consider new wheels if your old ones are not disc ready.

  • I looked at doing this... My frame and fork are disc ready and I wanted hydraulic discs.

I did the costing based on new stuff from Merlin:

Shimano Deore 505 Wheels - £75 for the pair
Shimano Deore 595 Disc Brake Set - £120
and I would need a new set of shifters which would load another £30 on top.

Add to that the cost of a new fork... In your case because it's not disc ready and in my case because my fork utterly sucks and you're talking over £400.... So I'm going to do the winter on my V's and buy a new bike in spring.
