Steerer Tube Star Nut, or not?

I've just bought the exotic carbon forks off carboncycles.cc, the ones with the alloy steerer tube. But there are no ridges/ribs inside the steerer tube like every other fork i've ever seen. Will a standard star-nut work? I've read about expander plug type things, but they seem to be recommended for carbon steerers.
Any ideas?

steerer tubes do not have any " ridges/ribs".
yes you can use a SFN or an expander plug if you want."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

my ns fundamentals have, i assumed they were needed otherwise surely the SFN would just slide out. but if you say so master nick then it must be ok.

A SFN will mark the inside of the steerer when it goes in, which is probably what you're thinking of.
Expanders are more faff than they're worth.0
