Currently fitting a hope headset and I am having problems with the crown race.
I can push it all the way down so it sits flush on the crown
( fox f120 rlc 32mm) the problem I have is the bearing won't then fit over the race.
Measuring using a set of verniers the race has an O.D of 0.5mm bigger than the I.D of the cartridge bearing.
Any ideas?
Do I fit a spacer under the crown race?

is the bearing the right way up?

is it the split race or the O ring one?

Yes the bearing is the right way up.
    It's the split type.
Please confirm that nothing goes between the race and the crown. Metal to metal. Or should there be a rubber seal?

    correct nothing.

but it sounds like bearing does not have the internal taper down or either the bearing or the race is incorrect.

The one on these forks has a rubber seal underneath it

there is nothing under the crown race.

if you take it all off the bike does it fit together?

I can't fit it all together as I pressed the cups onto the frame.
My race doesn't look like the one in the photo. Mine has a 45 degree chamfer with no flat edge.
My shock steerer also expands to 1.18" at the crown. Is that normal?

    Hi,

I had a similar problem when I was putting together my partners hope headset. in the end I took it all off, assembled it off the bike (including the race) and it turned out it was the wrong race for the wrong bearing (Doh!) swapped the race and it fit snugly.

Reassembled on bike and all good.

I'd really look at getting the cups out the bike. if you haven't got a tool to do it rather than damaging the cups with the flat head screwdriver and a hammer technique let them get it out.

    Good luck

    All sorted.
After a lot of ball ache I took it back to the lbs where I bought the headset and after they inspected it they found I had 2 upper races. So they gave me one out of another headset pack.
Just happy now I can finish my Flux.

Thanks to all of those who replied. Much appreciated.
