Why do bikes with a shimano groupset so often have SRAM cassettes? Don't shimano make a sora, tiagra or 105 cassette? EG my trek is all tiagra except for a PG-950 SRAM cassette.

And why don't SRAM make the rest of the groupset for that level (their stuff is generally 105, ultegra, dura ace equivalent isn't it?)

My (limited) experience is that SRAM cassettes are better than the equivalent Shimano.

As for why the mix, it might be that most freehub bodys that are SRAM/Shimano compatible tend to work better with SRAM cassettes.
