Trek 3.1 2011 Madone

I was in Evans the other day and browsed the carbon machines.

Anybody seen the Trek 2011 3.1 Madone in the flesh? I hope i don't offend anybody saying this, however is it me or does this bike look god damn ugly? Pretty much EVERY carbon machine i've looked at in the past looks gorgeous and makes me think 'god i need to get the money for one of them', but the headtube on this bike is so so long/high that it creates such a long wide curve inside the top tube/downtube joint that it looks so ugly! It takes away the fabulous loving beauty of carbon. Its obviously a Sportive fit, but Trek have made loads of Sportive fit bikes in the past which haven't looked like this.....is it just the 3.1 or have all the Trek Carbon sportive fit bikes gone this way this year? They didn't have any other 2011 Trek carbon machines on view to look at to compare.....

Cheers mate, the reason i didn't post a picture though was because the picture doesn't do it justice if you know what i mean, that picture doesn't look anywhere near as bad as it does in the flesh!

That curve around the headtube, downtube, and top tube, looks a lot worse in the flesh..

Does anybody know if ALL the 2011 Trek Madones are going to be like this?

They both look like great bikes to me, a bike is not a fashion accessory IMHO. OK they're not that pretty but either way a paint job is just cosmetic.

Looks fine to me, I'm not a fan of sloping top tubes but it looks a lot better than most.

Fashion accessory or not looks are a consideration when choosing a bike......

I generally like Trek bikes, but was just taken back by the design of this new bike, i certainly wouldn't consider buying it and that is a first for a Trek, which are normally beautiful looking in my opinion, especially there Madones.....

That photo as i've said doesn't show the full picture, the curve around the inside of that head tube is OTT....

However, just been looking through the 2010 Madone catalogue and noticed that they also had the same curves around the headtubes on some bikes, even though they were all the same series Madone?

Why is that?

Difference between a pro fit and performance fit maybe? Pro fit has a smaller headtube.

I agree with you, but I recently saw the Trek Madone 5.5 Compact 2011 Road Bike and it looks nice. I'm saving to get that at the moment. All the photos I've seen of the 2011 bikes on the internet are rather lame, someone needs to post better photos.

Why does the back slope downwards? I don't like that. Would the pro fit be any different? I see no mention of different fits in bike shops.

Maybe it is the difference between pro and performance fit........but boy does the performance fit look ugly in the Madone if that is the case.....and yes the top tube does in deed slope downwards and it is VERY noticeable....

Yes mate, Evans at Gatwick had the Madone 3.1 2011 on the shop floor built up.....this is how i noticed how strange the frame looked.

Well, none of them are stunners are they. Ordinary bikes that had a great promoter in Lance Armstrong. Imagine if he had ridden for one of the europeans? Now there is some nice Look, Time, Italian etc, Trek don't come into the same category.

I'm not sure I see a big difference. I know what the differences are - but they aren't drastic to me. And I own a Madone 6.9 from 2 years ago (looks a lot like the first photo).

I agree about the promoter, but i actually like the look of Trek bikes, as i said its personal preference at the end of the day, the one bike i would race out and get if i had the money would be this:-

Its the colour that throws it for me, that blue i think is just stunning.

Bike looks are very subjective.

I'm waiting for people to post photos of the 2011 models. Trek's own photos aren't enough. I strongly contemplating the Trek Madone 5.5 2011 compact.

Well - I don't use the Zipps in the winter, but yeah that's my winter bike. The summer bike is a lot nicer 8)
