Giant XTC Composite Headset issue.

Im trying to get a headset to fit my carbon XTC frame which takes an internal headset. I've lost the original headset that came with it and bought an FSA Orbit IS2 CC off CRC.
The bearings are exactly the same as the original one that came with the frame. When the bearings are placed into the headtube however, they sit far too low down.
I assume this means theres something missing from inside the headtube?
Anyone know?

Yeah, you've not put the cups in. It takes a semi-integrated from the look of things as there is no bearing seat on the inside of the headtube, you need something like this:
Click the picture to go to CRC.
Basically if you had a proper integrated frame there'd be a chamfer for the bearing to sit on. As far as i can see there isn't hence you need the internal cup ones. If you order the appropriate cane creek headset then at least you've got spare bearings!0 -

that is the same thing. a semi-integrated is an internal or zero stack headset.
so what is the measurement?
cant see any taper seat..... for an integrated headset (no cups)

Thats what I'm trying to find out. There used to be an extra bit inside the head tube.
It's not one that the headset cups press into the inside of the head tube but there was something else in the headtube that is now lost.0 -

Looking at your frame it seems as though there has been 2 different parts in that head tube as there is a dark ring just above the step which is about 1/3 of the total bore depth.
It could either be a spacer or some sort of crown race?

I suspect they are specific to the angle on the bearing for the hope but there may well be a 'standard' for frames like in the FAQ pic above where the taper appears to be machined into the headset.

maybe Giant and others use the angled bearing seat to ensure they can be used with different standards.
If you can get the angle of the Hope ones and the ones you have then you will answer your own question I guess. Good luck finding out the info though.0 -

still learning all of this tech stuff but maybe one of the bearing angles is or also corresponds to the seat angle as well as the contact angle.

I was right, the 36 is the internal contact and the 45 is the frame contact angle. So if the one you have is also 45 (should say on the bearing) then the hope one should work.0 -
