Autumn is here

I cycled to work in the rain and got soaked. Left my cycling stuff to dry all day (it didn't). Went for a walk at lunch in the bright, dry weather. At home time I put my (still wet) cycling gear back on and cycled home in the rain and got soaked again. I've now given my bike a wipedown and abandoned dry lube in favour of wet lube for the rest of the year. Boo!
My rucksack, helmet, gloves and shoes are all drying out now.
I'm now thinking rim brakes may not be the best option for a bike in the rain. Disc brakes and mudguards
on a roadbike are seeming like a great idea. (though ugly). A hydrophobic coating to my glasses seems quite smart too. Pass me a potato...
Edit: Anyone have any modifications for autumn? Winter is all thermal base layers and studded tyres but autumn throws up its own problems.

For commuting, I think it makes sense. For a fair weather road bike, I wouldn't want disc brakes either.
I think the Road forum would burn me for that suggestion, but commuters must see some sense in it.
I think we can all agree that flat bars are for nazis and paedos though. Gotta try to get the roadies back onside!FCN 3: Raleigh Record Ace fixie-to be resurrected sometime in the future

I've got disc brakes on my (sort of) road bike...
They are mega good - especially last night
New office in the new year won't have bike storage though, and I'm not keen on locking this shiny beast up outside, so not sure what I'm gonna do... :evil:0 -

The rain stopped as I was getting ready this morning. The sun was out as I stepped out to the garage - it was looking like a baeutiful morning for a ride. But then I opened the garage door to discover the PF had paid me a visit overnight. No time to replace the tube if I wanted to catch my train, so I was forced to drive to the station. Bah. Rubbish.
This is why you need (at least) two bikes, right?Summer: 2012 Trek Madone 3.5

That'll be why I was a bit cool for the first 2 miles and my feet have yet to thaw out; time to ditch the Summer shoes.0 -

Mrs. Elephant told me recently that three should really be a minimum.
Married well, didn't I?0 -

Switched to full finger gloves too, and a baselayer under my jersey and arm warmers, tried a jacket the other day, still too warm and I got 6 miles in and had to ditch it into my bag0
