Are these worn out?

Just realised how bad the pic of the cassette is. Is there a sure fire way of telling if sprockets / rings need replacing?

I'm riding without a front mech at the moment, with the chain on the big ring, and its thrown it off a couple of times, and thrown it onto the small ring once.

The bike must have done at least 2500 miles, maybe quite a few more.

Chainring doesn't look too bad. Can't see the cassette properly.

it will throw it off without a front mech as the front mech not only shifts the chain, it also keeps the chain in place. the rings look fine from what i can see . they just need a good clean and lube

check your chain for stretch, if it is very stretched then it is possible the cassette will have worn to the chain.

if you buy a new chain and put it on then it should quickly tell you if the cassette has had it, skipping, slipping and all that.
