Drivechain

Whilst out riding trails on sunday in wet muddy conditions i noticed the wet and mud caused my drivechain to make lots of nice loud crunching sounds along with the sound of my discs scrapping. Is this normal for these conditions? as other riders had the same problems. I lubed my chain with finish line wet lube the night before. Im kinda new to this after being out of it for a few years, so forgive me if sounds a stupid question.
