Unless you crash it (and write it off- and thats unusual), it will last you as long as you want it to last ?

You're probably getting distracted by the Pro team's habit of selling off their bikes at the end of the year.

But you have to remember that their bikes do thousands of tough miles and they have to ride the latest equipment to satisfy their equipment sponsors

  • Race bikes don't "wear out".
They get upgraded, and the parts trickle down to lesser bikes over time.

  • i am replacing mine for next season, have done 3 or 4 seasons on it and it is noticeably heavier than the new version

Or they get trashed from a few years of heavy use and abuse..
Mine will get replaced when I've broken it.

The rims on my race wheels however will probably only last another season (2 in total), but again they've been ridden hard on bad roads in the rain a fair few times.
  • Still got my first one - first raced on it in May 1957 - so that's 53 years.
  • 5000 miles / 1 year so far

    What I've replaced:

    a) Rear deraileur - got trashed by a broken spoke from b)
    b) Planet X Model B wheels, coz they're crap and spokes snap uphill on them. wheelsmith was replacement wheels, been fantastic so far
    c) chain was replaced to slow down wear on my cassette

All on a Planet X SL pro carbon. Good bike, crap wheels though.*

*I got two sets as well, so it's not a one off dodgy "friday afternoon" pair.
    I climb faster then you.
