Am trying to cajole my kids into going.
My 10yr old wants to know more about what he'd be doing; tried emailing BCF but email bounced (I am an unapproved sender??).

It's at the local high School, so all on grass / no road.
Local sports centre staff can only tell me that "They're bringing in professionals" and one thing they have is "a bike that makes up yogurt smoothies".

Can anyone expand on all that?

(ps: it's not even advertised on BCF website, and leaflets only went out to one of the local primary schools, I only know that the event is on because someone happened to have a leaflet to show her other friend and I looked over their shoulders).

Is it a Go Ride training session, or a Go Ride Race event.

Basically the training sessions are aimed at training 6 to 14 year olds fundamental riding skills, the sessions are good fun. These are taken by BC qualified level 1 and 2 coaches normally. Might be club coaches or BC employees. I am a trainee level 2 coach and would coach these sort of sessions.

If it is a Go Ride Race event, it is a event that is aimed at getting people racing, this will be children as well as adults.

I would guess if it is at a local school, it is more of a training session rather than a race. This has either been organised by the school itself, if it has the qualified coaches, or possibly by a local club. I was trying to set one up at the school my little lad goes to. Details might not be on the BC website if it is locally organised.

As above try contacting the regional coach, as they might know what events are on.

Our Amber has just had her first day on Sky Go-Ride summer training camp. 4 days of trying different types of cycling. A bargain at £10 per day and taken by qualified coaches. Today she did BMXing and was dreading going, I practically had to put her in the car this morning (she is 13 though  )

I picked her up at 3 and she was full of it absolutely loved it, even managed to do some jumps ! She can't wait to go tomorrow. I only found out about it by chance whilst on a club ride. I definately recommend it if you have one near you.

Okay, I will fire off emails to ALL of the Eastern coordinators and see if any of them don't bounce. 8)

    The leaflet says...
    Go Ride
Cycle Fun Day at Name of our town (we are in rural Norfolk)

so dunno if it's an event or training session and no mention of the word "Sky"!
It's age 6-15, so presumably a training session??
    Thanks for feedback.

The Go-Ride session leaflets usually have the name of the Go-Ride co-ordinator/coach runing it together with contact details.

    Doesn'th this one?

Those run in West Yorkshire have all these details and a broad outline of what areas of cycling will be covered.

Nope, only contact phone no. is for the local sports centre (venue where it's being run).

I fired off emails to the regional staff but no replies.
BCR website is pretty useless for finding info, too, tbh.
I guess next step is to start phoning.

My 10yo has an Islabike Luath which he thinks won't be suitable, because he (we) reckon the event will be oriented towards what kids can do on big heavy mtbs with mega suspension (since that's what most kids have). Or maybe BMX freestyle jumpers with gyro and stunt pegs -- son does have one of those, but would be nice to know which bike to bring.

    Will keep trying.

bikes and helmets were supplied by go-ride, we just had to let them know we needed one and it was free of charge.

Ah, spoke to a British Cycling person yesterday... it seems like this event isn't one of theirs at all! She thought it might be the County Council who were organising it.

    Live and learn, eh?

    Ooh, the plot thickens.
10yo son suddenly developed enthusiasm and he went/will go to 2 of their local events.

It's not BCF or County Council, it's Tri-a-sport who are running this, sheesh, who would have thought!
And the actual event is mostly races and sprints and relays around tennis courts.

Still, they gave me a lead on who is running the nearest genuine grass track events for kids.

DS is mostly wiping the floor because of his better quality bike, so mind, his enthusiasm won't last if he ever meets up with a load of kids with similar bikes, but I guess I'll take what I can get.

Get yourself over to west yorkshire. The organisation with East Bradford Cycling Club is brilliant and the children have a great time practicing basic skills and learning to ride safely as well as learning race techniques.
