what road bike can i get for £250 or less

i dont know what bike to buy as i have never bought a road bike before i only have £250

    eBay would be your best bet but try a couple out for size first at your LBS so you know what size you need.

    Local cycling clubs are a good source of used kit too...

    Some Decathlon's are pretty cheap.

    As above, find out what size you are looking for and look out for a good used bike ie,
    Giant OCR
    Giant SCR
    Specialized Allez
    Dawes Giro
    Carrera etc. etc

    Fleabay, once the Le Tour addiction dies off and the cold weather hits. All the aspiring Wiggins etc will have given up and you may find a decent, second hand, hardly used machine.

    go to your LBS, state your budget, and ask them if they have any trade-ins

    If they're forward thinking, they sell you a trade-in at cost on the assumption that you'll buy a new bike from them in 2 years time

    And if they do, it will be checked over and warranted and be the best value for money you'll get
