Anyone going to this? Or perhaps could comment on previous events?

I'm thinking of going but the exhibitor list looks a bit thin on the ground with Specialised and Ribble being the only 'mainstream' bike manufacturers that I recognise...

Was hoping to see a lot more 2011 bikes on display, maybe they all go to Eurobike 2010 instead...can't afford the travel to that..

Maybe i'm doing it a dis-service as I've not been before...? perhaps some of the shop stands will have 2011 bike displays...????

cheers

Had a very quick glance at the exhibitor list last week & it seems okay.

Almost 100% of bike importation is done by the big importers like Windwave (Colnago, etc), Jim Walker (De Rosa, etc), Madison (Cervelo, etc) & a few others, so as long as you see them then you'll see the bikes they import at the show.

Show - it's okay but I can imagine Eurobike being way better as that's where a lot of new stuff is announced.

Eurobike is always better (not that I have been) but imo the Cycle show is always worth a look. I go every year and there's always something worth going for.
  • Is there any chance to buy stuff now?

Last time I went was a few years back and it was like window shopping - just looking, with no opportunity to buy anything.

Oh, maybe that's no bad thing.

Went last year. It was ok, most bike makes on display but apart fom a small area selling clothing, you couldnt buy anything there. I dont think I will bother this year.

I'd only be interested if it was like computer faires, good stuff at good prices. I can stare at overly expensive crap in my local bike shops.

Clue is in the name Cycle SHOW - to exhibit ones wares.

Computer fairs really interesting things to attend

    Agreed.

But if you compare to the Horse of the Year SHOW, the trade hall is immense and incredibly busy.

The Cycle Show is a lost opportunity, I feel, if there are no sales stands. People visiting the show will part with their cash and make spontaneous purchases.

Never been before but I am very surprised there isn't the opportunity to buy. If you go to the boat show, caravan show, they will all sell their products. You might not walk away with the item eg new boat or van, but it's ordered, usually at show prices. I'm a sucker for impulsive purchases especially if I think I'm getting a bargain. I do believe they are missing out on an opportunity to make/take money, especially in todays financial market.

There was a small store areas last year with various people (inc I think Endura) selling their wares. But most of these prices were retail, so no point in buying for them.

Cycle show is good for people looking at bike porn - and for example, I think Enigma got a no of orders as a result, not so good for people looking for bargains.

Some would think that cycling shows would be dull too, it's what people enjoy or did you not think that? I seem to remember my Grand-father dragging us around CB/Amateur Radio/Bentley/Model Aircraft faires, him wided eyed and the rest of us bored to tears! Although I did like the aircraft, he'd spend hours in the shed building them up, putting the 'paper' on the wings - sounds a lot like me pootling with the bike.
  • For anyone who does decide to go, you can use the code "CWM" when buying tickets online, paying £10.50 rather than £15 :D
  • went last year - there are opportunities to purchase all sorts of items.... got some gels, bottles, jersyes etc...
