I've got most of my wish-list written up- just need to save the coins to pay for it all now!

What headset are you using on your ragley mmmbops?

I am going to fit my Pike 454's. Will I need a 'step down' a la Hope 1.5 - 1 1/8?

most people sem to tbe using superstarcomponents ones,
  • I've opted for this one:

Was going to go for the Superstar one, but it doesn't entirely cover the top of the headtube and that kind of thing gets my knickers in a twist.

Some low stack headsets are reported to cause fork crown clearance issues with the downtube, though other people seem to get on fine.
Less internal organs, same supertwisted great taste.
  • I'm still undecided on this as well.I like the look of the superstar one but don't like the fact it doesn't cover the headtube and the hope description makes it sound like you need to put an additional 1 1/8 headset inside the reducer?

I put one of those in, but they were £48 and had stock at the time.

Saw someone selling a second hand one with new bearings for £20 a few days later... grrr!
  • Sorry but dragging this thread up again. This is the only part that is holding up my build now as Im still undecided on a headset. I really like the hope reducer headset but it says "to run alongside a convential headset" or something along those lines. Sorry if its a dumb question but does this mean I will need another headset that fits inside the reducer one or can I just fit the reducer one and then fit my forks.HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

The Hope reducer is a complete headset, no other parts needed. Very nice bit of kit, I'm not much of a Hope fan really but when I got the Hemlock they seemed to be the best option out there.

But, I didn't get one for the Mmmbop, I got a set of these instead:

And fitted the standard headset I already had. Not pretty but effective.
