I first encountered Derek and Clive many years ago at High School (doesn’t everyone?). A mate of mine had been given a tape by his older brother. I forget which album it was but it was the one with the ‘Horse Race’ sketch.
The tape was old and battered and had ‘Prefab Sprout’ scrawled on it. I was fairly sure it wasn’t really Prefab Sprout – I’d heard ‘The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and this didn’t sound anything like that. My mate insisted it was so I spent about two years suspicious that there was a very Dark Side of Paddy McAloon*…
*Which sounds like a Pink Floyd album.0 -
