Help please, to find a round thing

Yes I know but as you can see I am no biker.

My disabled son and I both have Saracen bikes, now, after the pedal then crank, on the chain side you have a very easily broken PLASTIC, plastic...... circular guard (a round thing) about 7" across and held on with small screws.

Can these be replaced, please.

Universal (duh) ones never fit.

Any help would be appreciated.

    If the universal ones don't fit. It might be worth finding a Saracen selling shop to see if they can get you a replacement from the manufacturer.

    remove it completely , its only there to stop your trousers getting chewed up/ greased by the chain :wink:

    I think the name of the bit your looking for is called a "chain(ring) guard" (or something similar.)

    A bit of googling for me only turns up really expensive ones though.

    If I'm wearing decent clothes on my bike I tuck my drive side trouser into my sock, simple and works (feel a bit silly when i forget i have done it and am no longer on the bike though lol). there are bike clips (clip your trousers round your angle) too which Ive never used but i guess are more popular with (some) commuters. also keep your chain nice and clean not black, its better for it anyway.

    But as I said I have disabled sons who will not do these things hence the need for a guard, what you do will not suit others.

    People, you guys should be a bit more sensitive to someones needs, if a man asks where to replace something and states his sons are disabled, just give him the answer and not tell him he doesn't need it.

    Jeremy, I suggest you pop into the shop you bought it from, and see if they can a new one ordered. You may also get lucky, alot of customers have those things taken off straight away if their doing any serious mountain biking out on trails, so they made have a few laying around the shop they would be willing to give you.

    no worries, I wasnt sure what other methods you had already tried, was just trying to help with a workaround solution.

    are you after something more sturdy than what was on there, or a like for like replacement? if its replacement then I'm not sure whats out there on the universal types, for a like for like maybe you could post a picture of yours, state the number of teeth on the outer chainring (biggest cog, that the plastic thing connects to) and someone might have one lying around?

    Im not sure the best way of getting in tough with the manufacturers? (as shops dont usually stock them other than the universal ones etc)

    2. YES thsnks for the suggestion they did have some laying around and gave me 2
    3. Contacted the importer as suggested (supplier) another two

    and Thanks MM the problem with having disabled sons is that I know what they need and only that will do, if it were just me, well no probs.
