New bike - vibrations and squeeky noises when breaking

I am new to road cycling, and have just picked up my first bike.

Have taken it for quick test ride, and noticed that when I break hard there is a bit of vibration in the front wheel.

Also, the breaks (both front and rear) make a relatively high squeeky noise.

I've heard breaking on road bikes is a bit different to MTB or hybrids, although I don't really understand why.

Is this behaviour normal? How do I go about isolating what the problem is before contacting the dealer?

One thing to check is that there is no lubricant on the rims that can cause juddering as the brakes bite and release over the contaminated patches, also check your forks are not lose if the front end is vibrating.
  • Might be that your brakes arent fitted correctly.. they need to be slighty "Toed in" to avoid squeaking.

have a look there for help in setting them up correctly.

Also, could just be that they are brand spanking new and need to bed in a bit more..

Thanks for that! It is brand spanking new :-D so hopefully should be set up correctly but sounds like I should have a closer look.
