Looking at doing some minor upgrades to my Carrera Vulcan before i purchase a frame for my bomb proof/pratt about Hardtail frame.
Now i'm after the following for my Vulcan:
Wheels, all mountain strength, not arsed about weight
Decent saddle
New front chainset to replace the nasty OE crap.
Tyres
Don't wanna spend more than £300 really.
Cheers
Marc

look at mavic wheels, but basically my advice would be buy everything else first, and then whatever u have left over, get wheels that cost that much
saddle: charge spoon - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Charg ... 5360045292
new chainset - deore with HT2 BB - http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Search/Pr ... t_1356.htm
tyres - depends on riding, but personally maxxis high rollers are my choice.0 -
What are good but cheap Mavic's then? Been looking at Superstar component subzero rims and shimano deore jobs.0

Not at all bad. Very slightly more padding wouldn't hurt, but for the price I like it.http://www.strathspey.co.uk - Quality Binoculars at a Sensible Price.

Wheel wise, I got some of these recently and have been really impressed with them: http://superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_ ... cts_id=330
Cartridge bearing hubs and quite light. I'm sure they'll be strong enough for most riding.0 -
Superstar Switch wheelset as featured in this month's MBUK, £215 the pair, then £50-£60ish on the Deore chainset and £25 on a Charge Spoon. Just under your £300 budget.
Alternatively, Mavic Crossride wheelset, cheap and well proven.0 -
Wil the deore chainset be fine with the SRAM x4 stuff the bike has?0
