Double shifting

I hope that is a meaningful term for changing both chainwheel and cog simultaneously.

Seems to me be a slick way of maintaining cadence given that a chainwheel change is equivalent to about 5 cog changes BUT are there any downside risks?

    The main potential pitfall is un-shipping the chain. You may get away with it 19 times out of 20, but that one time you don't will probably be when you're changing gear under pressure. It's better to think ahead and change each individually in quick succession.

    I'd never do it - too much going on with the chain there - two quick changes are better and remember to ease off the pressure when you change too.
