Hi all,

Firstly, what a great forum and source of info.

I'm just looking at taking up MTB as a source of fitness training and to take me away from the usual business related stresses and get me back out and about etc.

After a bit of research I think my first MTB will be a Boardman HT Pro.

I've gone for a HT in order to learn my technique and the Boardman pro seems to have the best package v price out there (correct me if I'm wrong?)

Cheers

Rick

The Boardman's are very well specced, great value bikes. All depends what riding you will be doing and how you feel on the bike though. The Boardman's are quite racey XC bikes. Some prefer something a little burlier, but that's a personal choice.

Can you recommend something of similar cost/spec to look at?

Have a look in the buying advice section, there's a million threads in there titled what hardtail for x amount of money? You'll find a wealth of information in there.

The Boardman is a great bike. I've had mine for 18 months or so, my first 'proper' bike, and it's fantastic. It's managed Welsh trail centres as well as local riding and Cannock Chase pretty regularly. If you're looking for a fast, light XC bike that can handle plenty of trails too, then go for it :)

    Here's my reckoning so far....

I'm starting out on a HT with view to learning the ropes; the kit on the Boardman is top bang for buck and should see me ok for a good while without the need to upgrade.

Once I've got a better understanding of MTB and my skills I'll no doubt know exactly what type of riding I prefer and can either buy a better HT frame and use the kit from the Boardman or indeed move to FS..

There... minds made up... I'm going for the Boardman Pro HT

Thanks for the opinions and help guys

    Cheers

  • To be honest, if you hang around here to much, then yes, you'll probably end up upgrading having sat and listened to what people have bought for a few months. But unless you're into some pro level cycling where a few grams makes up the vital fractions of seconds, you wouldn't need to upgrade from the Boardman. As with most of us, it'll probably be more capable than yourself! You may want to change it once, as you say, you know what you want, but I'm sure it'll do you proud.

Exactly that... as long as I'm not purchasing a donkey; I'm sure the bike will out perform me for years to come; a little like my R6! :D

I post on there now and then with this username. Havent been on there a while as we're under a different firewall at work and no longer have access.

Just got a bike via cyclescheme and starting posting on here.

The bike looks sweet. Boardman are a good choice, unfortunately the scheme work went for was different to Halfords.
