Cables for SRAM Red / Wilier

About to set up the frame, with full red groupset. Need cables.

Firstly, am thinking decent gear cables, and standard brake ones (?). Can't see the value in expensive brake ones to just tighten a caliper. Seems a bit of a waste? Gears need indexing, so seems like a better bet to pay for decent shifting.

So... the gear cables. As the Cento Uno has a rear mech cable routed inside the chainstay, I want a good cable with no issues in friction or being fussy. It has to take a more twisted route than most bikes, so I want a top notch set up.

Was thinking of the SRAM / Gore professional cable set that seems to be the T de F staple.. Anything better??

  • I've got rival, and when Yokozuna reaction cables are available in white (soon I'm told), thats where my money is going.

Yep.... I'd go with the SRAM, too.

  • Did you not get the Gore cables with your Red Groupset, they should be included.

I have speced them for my Izoard Force build when the frame arrives.

My cables were provided with my Force set. They were attached to the shifters and the brake cables/liners etc were in the box with them.

If I got them I'd not be asking.

The red stuff is new off a bike supplied with it. I didn't get the cables as these were kept for the campag put on....

I just gor the bits in a box! Hence, I have the option to ask for opinions.
  • Gore professional cables are very nice. Would recomend them.

I'm running Nokon's on mine and the shifting is very tight and crisp.
I got a good deal with my LBS when I bought my SL3 frameset.
Like any cables though they need to be set up correctly for best effect.
    Gore cables are good too.

    Bought Gore Pro....

Though I'll use bog standard LBS ones for the brakes...

    Do brakes deserve decent cables?!

Hi, I have SRAM rival on my bike and have always had it serviced at the LBS before. Now want to change the cables. I cannot find many cables that say SRAM. Can I use shimano compatible ones?

    Thanks
