I run a 2000/1 era Heckler which I bought last year. According to Bikepedia all of the iterations of my model had a 27.2 seatpost. When I bought it I asked Jungle what seatpost it should have and they agreed with Bikepedia that most had a 27.2 but they did say that a few models depending on the year had a 26.8 post.

When I got it I had a 27.2 ready to fit but it didn't fit the tube so I assumed I had one of the oddities and fitted a 26.8

The seatpost currently seems to come loose easily and has a small amount of play. I have tried a 27.2 in it and it barely fits however the frame has been resprayed and I am wondering it the inside of the tube is merely a bit gummed up with over spray.

Should I emery cloth the inside of the tube a bit then lube up and go in with the bigger post or stick with the 26.8?

I guess if I had the frame number I could email it to Santa Cruz direct and get the low down? Unfortunately I cant read the frame number due to the heavy duty paint job.
