How long should a chain last?

I fitted a new HG93 chain to my winter bike about 12 weeks ago and have done about 200 miles. As I was tweaking a few things on my road bike I used the chain wear tool (park tool) and noticed the chain was stretched. Out of interest I checked the training bike and was shocked to see the tool would not drop into the gaps either?

My MTB is also worn after about 300 miles on a hg93 too...

Are there better chains?
Should they wear this fast?
Are they fitted right?

    If it doesn't drop into the gaps, it's not worn.

    If it does drop in , it's worn at least the amount stamped on the side of the tool you are using.
