macbook problem, help appreciated

I work with computers and this has got me stuck, haven't had much luck from other forums so I turn to the one with the most knowledgeable people on it !
My macbook works fine on the power adapter or not as long as I am using it, browsing the web or just moving the mouse. As soon as you leave it alone for longer than 1 minute it powers off - not a clean shut down.
its really bizarre, any ideas anyone ?
