Can this be done?

I want to know if anyone has fitted a SRAM XX chainset and run a Dura-ace 9 speed chain with an XTR 9 speed rear cassette. I want to use the XTR shifters but will need a SRAM front Mech and a bottom bracket adapter.
Just seeing if i can just swap my XTR front chainset for a SRAM XX one with minimal change to the rest of the bike.

well it seems that the XX front mech appears to be only compatible with the XX shifter.
i too would just change the rings on the cranks."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Yes you should be fine, Dave Collins is running that set up, although you may need to run Grip Shift to get the best shifting, XX front mechs pull different amounts of cable.0

Thanks for that guys. I am at the point of having to change the XTR front chainset and was wondering about going for the XX on the front. I know someone who is going to try it out soon so will get some feedback from them.
Not sure if I want to run gripshift. Used to run them but much prefer the trigger shifters. The price of XTR and XX is so expensive now but things wear out so when it comes time to replace them you don't want to make a mistake.Follow me on twitter: @OnOneScott

If anyone is interested. I have now fitted a SRAM XX chainset (42-29) to my anthem but am running Shimano XTR rear block with a dura ace 9 speed chain. I have had to replace the front mech with an XX one but have left the front shifter as an XTR.
It works really well. The XTR shifter only has to make one shift and this can be adjusted with end stops and cable tension. The pull on the XX front mech is the perfect amount and shifts lovely.
I had to put a Chris King BB adapter in to take the new XX spindle but apart from that nothing else has changed.
So now I have a double chainring chainset with the 158Q factor running on XTR 9 speed and so when going from big to big there is minimal chain displacement.
Very happy with how this has worked out. My XTR chainset had worn out and was going to need replacing but for a little extra I have managed to have a fully functioning double chainring front end.
