Avid Elixir Rs bite reduced

I have had a Boardman Pro Ht for about 3 weeks now.

I cleaned the bike, sprayed degreaser on the brake assemblies front & rear then rinsed them off. I also lubed the fork & drivetrain taking care not to get lube near the brakes.

Since I have done this, the front brakes do not seem to be biting. When I first applied teh brakes after the clean, the bike almost didn't stop at a crossing  The back brakes seem OK now but the front ones still do not seem to be doing much.

I have to really squeeze hard & even then, the bite is a lot less than before.

Have I done something wrong? Do I need new pads or can anyone suggest a cure?

Any advice gratefully received :D

I think degreaser has a bit of water reppelent crap in it which wont be good for areas that require friction to perform, the pads might be contaminated, try using muc off brake disc cleaner on them and your rotors, give them a good clean. Your probably better off getting new pads and staying away from any other spray type bike cleaner.

Muc off bike cleaner is ok to use on all parts of your bike but get your hands on specifically disc brake cleaner

so it was not a disc brake cleaner?

was it it Finish Line Ecotech 2 Multi-Degreaser 2010
and contains rust and corrosion inhibitors.

    Oopps

if you used Finish lines Speed Degreaser (Speed Clean™) then the pads will come back as that is a disc suitable cleaner and you may have just dislodged some crud onto a pad.

there are reasons companies make disc safe cleaners.
