Hi, a group of us are heading up to New Galloway for 5 days later on in the summer. We will be hitting Kirroughtree and probably another trail centre on route (which one exactly is yet to be decided). We will be staying about 5 miles north of Newton Stewart on the edge of the New Galloway Forest. I was wondering is anyone knows of any decent off-road, preferably single track, trails in that area or of any web sites that might give us some help?

thanks

Neil

    Nope :(
Not much doing re singletrack around there other than some Southern Upland Way tracks. Bit bleak, boggy and tussocky for riding around that area.
Some hike`a bike can be had from Glentrool up onto Merrick and back out, not been myself but others who have rate it.
Try a mailshot to the Breakpad at Kirry and maybe Sam/Claire could hook you up with a local.
There is however plenty riding to be had on Landranger OS78 Nithsdale up around the Sanquhar area and out of Ae. Also possible to tag on or start from Drumlanrig.

Off up there tomorrow via train to Sanquhar and riding back to Dumfries

As you already know about Kirroughtree you could try here, http://www.7stanes.gov.uk/ or http://www.7stanes.com/ . Both sites will give you most of the trail centre info you need. As for single track info, I'm not too sure where to suggest for that one.
