i'm in the look for new wheels for the anthem as the wheels i have are far to heavy for me (8stone) i have a budget of £600 (the birthday fairy and selling the old wheels means a nice amount of money for me to play with)
my first choice was crank brothers cobalt but are they under £600
also what about specialized wheels heard there quite light
any help would be great

Is this a one off upgrade, or do you plan more? If a one off 600 blast I'd spend 300 on a fork and 300 on wheels.0

more of a one off i love the f100rl forks
possibly the only other thing might be grippier tyresmongoose amasa elite 08

Oh right lol, I thought the x4 had a tora.
Given as you can get Hope, XTR or DT 240 handbuilt into Stans rims with a choice of spokes for between 300 and 450 is is difficult to justify spending any more really. And still can come out lighter than the Cobalts.0 -
i see, what do you think of the roval wheels from specialized then
was thinking of XTRmongoose amasa elite 08

Good reviews, but quite flexy the WMB team found.0

do you still think they will be flexy for me thoughmongoose amasa elite 08

Not at 8 stone, but I'd still take a handbuilt set over them.0

what about XTRmongoose amasa elite 08

Well I have XTR wheels - but I'd still get handbuilts lol. Just easier to get spares and repairs with normal spokes and rims.0

stans olympic, stans hubs and sapim cx-ray spokes with brass nipples.
very light and awesome!0 -
For my X3 I got a set of Stans 355 rims running Superfast/Superleggera titanium hubs and Sapim CX-Ray spokes from Superstar Components.. comes in at just under 1500g for the pair and just under £400..
The American Classic seem to be getting a lot of mentions recently too.. haven't tried them but have to say they look the business!0 -
had a look at the classics thats proberly the wheel i going to get but is there any different between the white and black apart from the price and paintmongoose amasa elite 08

Kind of depends what you want, it's an Anthem X so not "just" an XC bike. Traversees or similiar seem ideal, a nice halfway house between light and strong, and will let you use more of the bike's capability on heavier stuff. But if you were going to use it more as an XC missile then lighter and weaker would be fine. Nice choice to haveUncompromising extremist0

I've got a modded X4 and transferred the wheelset over from my carbon hardtail.
I've been very happy with my wheelset on the X4 - Stans ZTR Olympic rims and Sun Ringle Dirty Flea hubs
Seem strong enough so far and certainly light - sub 1500g
I would suggest getting Stans ZTR Crest or Alpine on a decent hub like Hope, American Classic or Stans own.0 -
thanks everybody, so i decided on american classics in black for 350 quid it leaves me 250 quid for any other upgrades i want to domongoose amasa elite 08

Good choice.
I've got the Roval Controle SLs, and they're not bad, but spares are hard to come by, and bearing life isn't the best!0
