Hi Guys,

I used to ride many years ago and i am now looking to get back into it as a way of keeping fit. I am looking to spend between £150-£200. I have seen from a few people that staying away from the halfords budget bikes are a good idea. I have seen these three and i wonder which you think is best.

The rockrider seems to get some good reviews on here for an entry level bike, so just wondered what you thought of the others?

Thanks for your help guys!

The Decathlon is still the best to go for at this money - nice 24 speed groupset and smooth fork.

just got a 5.2 myself, it's an amazing bike. the only gripe i have is with the saddle, it's not very comfortable, i've ordered a charge spoon, which seems to get a lot of favourable reviews.

    hi guys

Thanks for the info, does anyone know what the sizing relates to for the rockrider. i tried to have a look on the site but it doesnt load up fully?

Hi whiterider - yes i would be open to 2nd hand, i looked through ebay, classifieds and been to local bike shops but there isnt much about at the moment.

A medium is around a 17.5 inch frame and a large is about 19 inches, extra large is about 21 iches
    I hope that helps

I'm about 5'10 and have the 8.1 with L size frame, gives a bit but not masses of clearance, any smaller than me and you'll need the M frame, think you'd need to be over 6' before even thinking about the XL

If you can however try the sizes out, as the distance to the handlebars etc can also make the bike seem more/less comfortable..
Every time I go out, I think I'm being checked out, faceless people watching on a TV screen.....

I bought a Giant Boulder a couple of weeks back as a beginners' bike and I'm really pleased with that. That being said, I wish I'd taken a look at the Rockrider first as that seems to be the one that everyone recommends.

    Thanks guys

I went for the rockrider and the large frame

Had a little ride around on it tonight and it seems quite good for the money, the only prob seems to be that the saddle seems very uncomfatable..

exactly my thoughts! my new saddle is definitely an improvement, and it's even better now that i wear TWO pairs of padded shorts!

Saddles are a very personal thing but the Charge Spoon works for a lot of people, me included.

At £20 could be worth a try:
